Jane Rapley, OBE
Dean of the School of Fashion and Textile Design at Central Saint Martins College.

Textile design education has played a significant role at Central Saint Martins (and its previous constituent Colleges) for over eighty years. Over that period it has developed from the traditions of the Arts and Crafts movement, through ‘Festival of Britain’ abstraction and sixties psychedelia, to tomorrow’s cutting edge.

Graduates already work in many fields, not only fashion but architecture, theatre and film, transport, products, living spaces and the environment. Students and staff are keen to engage with wide ranging technologies and are excited by their design potential in relation to all these fields of work. CSM’s ambition for our students is that the way they devise and design textiles now will influence the way we live in the future.
